about

I am currently Staff Directing at the National Theatre on the production The Other Place.

I direct plays! Most recently a cabaret-clowning show about grappling with the vastness of endings with the Hotter Project and a show about a trans teenager coming of age that uses projection to explore 20th century horror iconography and its queer importance with Pete Machale and the Bristol Old Vic

The former has played at the Roundabout, Edinburgh Fringe, The Yard, London and Bristol Old Vic. It's then touring to Manchester and Vienna. The latter was part of the Ferment scheme at Bristol Old Vic and will tour in 2025.

I also work with young people. The process of theatre is as important as the product and it is all about playfulness, silliness and devising. This has included co-Associate Director for targeted work at the Lyric Hammersmith, Associate Director at the Big House, NT Mentor Director for National Theatre Connections and directing for the London Youth Theatre.

I believe theatre is an important vehicle for social change. What we do is political! It is also about collective experience and community in an increasingly atomised time. In an entertainment-saturated age, I believe theatre is an important antagonist to all the consuming we do. Like an annoying little brother who won't stop with the questions, I think theatre can serve to keep calling us back ourselves, and look at the big things - life, death and whatever exists in between.

To that end, I like work that flits between cabaret, music, dance, performance art, clowning, caring, the politics of the body, and other things I haven't discovered yet.
